Kotoko names Godwin Ablordey as interim coach

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have named their former player Godwin Ablordey as the interim coach of the Kumasi-based club following the sacking of Zdravko Logarusic.

The Croat was fired on by the club’s management on Sunday night two hours after their goalless draw with Ebuasua Dwarfs in a league match.

The contract of Logarusic was terminated after an emergency Management meeting on Sunday at the club secretariat in Kumasi.

The meeting which was held primarily to discuss the coach’s future also decided that assistant coach Ablordey will take charge of the team until a substantive coach is found.

“Zdravko’s contract has been terminated. He has accepted the official notification given to him. Assistant coach, Godwin Ablordey will train with the team until further notice” Head of Communications, Obed Acheampong said

According to an official Kotoko report, Zdravko acknowledged the need for change in the technical direction of the club and therefore accepted Management’s decision to cut ties with him.

The Croatian coach was engaged by Kotoko on January 10, 2017.

He however started work on January 12.

He led the Porcupines in 11 league matches in which he won five, drew four and lost two.

His tactics came under strong scrutiny and criticisms from fans – many of who questioned his 3-5-2 formation.
