Govt denies spending whopping GHC 15 million on offices for First & Second Ladies

Government has vehemently dismissed rumours that a whopping GHc1million (10billion old cedis) and GHc500,000 (5billion old cedis) is being spent on the renovation of offices for both the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia and First Lady, Rebecca Akufo Addo respectively.

Government has described the claims by the Newspaper as a huge fabrication.

The Republic Newspaper has reportd that the President, Nana Akufo Addo has embarked on a project to upgrade the bungalows, Hs No. 2, First Circular Road, near the Ghana International School, in Cantonments, for Samira Bawumia, and a Ridge Bungalow, near ‘Blue Mall’ for Mrs. Akufo-Addo, with funds coming from the National Security establishment.

According to the Newspaper, whilst the Bungalow chosen by Mrs. Bawumiah is a fairly maintained by it’s previous user, that of Rebecca Akufo Addo had previously been recently used by former First Ladies, Lordina Mahama, as her office during the Presidency of John Mahama.

The Republic claimed that the first certificate for the project, an amount of GHc94,000 (940million old cedis) had been paid to FAWCO in the first week of February, this year.

In the first week of March, a little over GHc100,000 (1billion old cedis) had been paid to FAWCO upon raising a certificate, while GHc75,000 had been paid to the company in response to a third certificate that it raised.
Sources confirm that to Ghc1million (10 billion old cedis) has been allocated to specking up the bungalow of the Second Lady to taste.

On the part of the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Hs. No. A2, which the previous government had allocated to former First Lady, Lordina Mahama, for use as an office, has been polished up with GHc500,000, (500million old cedis) to make it even cozier.

But reacting to the allegation on Starr Chat on Starr FM Wednesday, Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid stated that the claims of the whopping sum of monies being spent on the project is false and urged the public to treat the allegation with the contempt that it deserved.

“The briefing that I have is that the bungalows are just being painted and as for cost of paint I’m not sure that I should bother my head about whatever number of buckets of paint that will be used to paint those offices. That is all that there is, especially the First Lady’s office, all that is being done on it is the painting.”
