Bonuses of Black Stars players should be discussed behind closed doors – Odartey Lamptey

The President of Glolamp Soccer Academy, Odartey Lamptey has suggested that the bonuses of Ghana’s National Team, the Black Stars should be discussed behind closed doors.’

‘This is key for me and I think the bonuses of the stars should be discussed behind closed doors. Even if the stars are paid 2 cedis, it should not be made public.’

‘He lamented that Ghanaians have varied opinions on issues hence they may feel that the stars are cheating the state, but what they fail to recognize is that, these players are professionals and depend on what is given them by the state as their remuneration.

He said, what the stars get from International Football is far huge than what they receive in Ghana and the love for the country is what motivates them to play. The negative affection Ghanaians have for the players in recent times he added, follows the bonuses usually discussed in public.

He said, our footballers should be motivated so they can play their hearts out.He also expressed the view for former footballers to be allowed coach the national team so they will impact the current breed of stars with the experience they gained during their era.We should get a special package or sponsorship to pay the stars well.

If we don’t pay them well, teams from countries will come for them.””We need ex-footballers with the passion to coach the national team. That will go a long way to help our current breed of stars,” he stated. He further called for government to invest heavily in infrastructure since that will enhance the development of sports in the game and other disciplines.

Former Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuije previously slashed bonuses of the Black Stars to $8,000, from $10, 000 which led to a rift between the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry. The stars came under serious criticism over the winning bonuses.Ghanaians became angry slamming the stars and described them as ‘greedy’ over their bonuses.

But Odartey Lamptey believes the attack on the stars is not justified and has advised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to discuss behind closed doors to prevent such attacks in future.
