GUSA 2016 SPROUTS GHANA SPORTS

GUSA 2016 SPROUTS GHANA SPORTS

Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) can do more. It is every athletes dream to compete perhaps internationally. Olympics is one of them. In Ghana, our Tertiary Olympics is GUSA games. This is where participatory Universities hold high their flags and compete in true sportsmanship.

Tertiary sports in Ghana for a decade have literally not seen the light in terms of meeting global standards with respect to infrastructure boost, maximum participation in events internationally and many others but yet, great talents emerge yearly from these system. “Such an irony?” Amidst all these challenges, Ghana still produces talents but the question is, can these people presumed to have great talents meet global standards?

Thanks to technology and globalization in general, one can just sit in his or her comfort zone and literally see the world. “Copying is not the best but I believe copying the right things is worthwhile”. What are other countries doing in relation to developing tertiary sports which is increasing their performance globally? What mechanism have they instituted which is enhancing their tertiary sports?

“Do they even have a system, if yes, how did they do it to achieve that? Information which is regarded as the life blood of every organization maybe lacking in our part of the world. Or perhaps we are exposed to too many information – information overload and we cannot make good use of them”.

What new thing are we going to see in GUSA 2016? Still the same old stories? GUSA can do more! Are we going to see good pitches, good court, better race track, better camping lodge/hostel, hygienic food, and sanitary washrooms, effective officiating, exceptional performances by athletes and just to mention but a few?

This is a trial to all tertiary sports stakeholders who wants to produce athletes to meet global standards to first get the right information ,invest in grass root sports thus from the schools system , improve upon infrastructure, embark upon exchange programs to learn more from other countries and also inspire the athletes to constantly improve upon their performance.

History most celebrated philosopher – Aristotle once said, “Problems are solved by asking the fundamental questions affecting the situation”. Thus solutions to a problem is attained by first finding out the root causes.
