Customs Ladies have dethroned 2014/2015 Greater Accra Hockey Champions Police ladies after one all stalemate.
Customs just needed a draw or win to lift the trophy which they did to perfection.
A game that was specifically played in midfield with both teams very cautions to concede any goal. The first goal of the evening came through Elizabeth Opoku who calmly lifted the ball over the rushing goalkeeper Boye Abigail, after police had conceded a short corner.
Customs defended their line gallantly after taking the lead to devoid any calamity.
Police Ladies exhibited potentials of champions but couldn’t breakthrough the resolute defends of Customs, who were tactically disciplined and cautious. The first half which lasted for 35 minutes with both teams failing to hit the back of the net.
Police ladies built on the splendid performance they had in the first half but Customs were up to the task as they defended well with almost every player at the defence.
The attacking prowess of Police ladies finally paid off as Linda Barnie deflected in Serwaa Boakye’s powerful hit into her own net in the 65th minute.
With five minutes remaining, Police looked more determined and aggressive to upset Customs, but had to rely on veteran goalkeeper Mensah Grace to rescue the night for them.
Customs ended the night with the trophy as they just needed to avoid a defeat to the defending champions.
Police ladies left the field in disappointment as they thought they could have done better than what they did.
Customs Ladies are champions for 2015/2016 Greater Accra Hockey League.
