GFA Presidency: Abedi Pele hails Nyantakyi’s decision to bow out

Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele has hailed GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi’s decision to pave way for a new leader for the country’s football in 2019.

Nyantakyi is currently in the second year of his fourth term and has signaled he intends to bow out when it runs out and concentrate on championing the course of Ghana and African football through his Caf and Fifa positions.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Pele said: “I think Nyantakyi has done his best and if he has even had the courage to come out and say that 2019 he is not going to stand, we all welcome it but we all have to wait and see.”

The three-time African footballer of the year will prefer to see the decision manifest first but he also believes the country will not struggle in finding an adequate replacement for Nyantakyi.

“We all have to play the wait and see game but what is important is the vacancy. Ghana doesn’t lack intelligent men to stand for this position so we should just wait to the time and we would get somebody.

“He has been wonderful – three World Cups is not an easy thing to do. I mean it’s amazing; he has done a wonderful job,” he added.

Abedi Pele however said: “I’m not interested” when asked about fancying the position.

The father of the Ayew brothers has been into administration and coaching [his club Nania FC] but he says he has no intention of going mainstream.
