Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association Ibrahim Sannie Daara has revealed that one of the targets for new Black Stars Head Coach Kwesi Appiah will be to qualify the team to the World Cup in Russia 2018.
The Stars have began their qualifying campaign to the world cup poorly only managing a point from their opening two games, and find themselves five points behind leaders Egypt with only the group winner set to qualify.
Saanie disclosed that qualifying for the world cup is still in the sights of the Football Association but admitted it would be a daunting task.
“Of course it should be one of the main tasks that he should aspire to do. Let’s also remember that at this point out biggest competition is Egypt and they are five points ahead of us, so it will be difficult.
“Although we should measure the way we give him expectation the fact remains that we want to qualify for the world cup,” he said.
The Black Stars have qualified for the last three editions of the world cup, with their best performance coming at the 2010 edition in South Africa where they fell at the quarter final stage to Luiz Suarez’s Uruguay.
