AMA denies death of trader in Circle row

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has denied reports suggesting that one person died following a confrontation between personnel of United Creative Solutions (UCS) and a trader and at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchage area.
On Saturday, May 13, 2017, personnel of UCS, a company contracted by the AMA to manage the lawn and other facilities at the circle Interchange, angaged a trader who was believed to have trespassed to the decongested area. The trader sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
In a statement, Public Relations Officer of the AMA Nummo Blafo III, regretted the occurrence of the incident and said, the UCS has taken up the full cost of the medical treatment of the victim.

“AMA is investigating the matter and will put measures in place to avoid any future occurrence of such incidences. The AMA have also noticed that some undisciplined traders want to use this incident as a leeway to frustrate the efforts of sanitising the enclave”.
Nummo Blafo said despite the unfortunate incident, the Assembly will continue to deploy all legal means to make the city of Accra clean.
“AMA will not relent in its efforts to fully implement our bylaws and activate the punitive sanctions thereof. The AMA however entreats all city dwellers to support the efforts being rolled out as we strive to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.”
