Nigerian pop star, Wizkid (real name Ayo Balogun) who was nominated for a BET Award in the category of Best International Act: Africa has turned down the nomination.
According to a Nigerian online journal, Wizkid who is currently based in the United States said he feels insulted. In an interview with FNN US, Wizkid said
“Like how can they put me in the same category as typical Nigerians. Like I am an international artiste even though I am from Nigeria. I have also won this award before.
These people need to get it right or else I am not interested in their award.”
Wizkid also got 7 nomination from Billboard Music Award and recently tweeted to fellow nominee, Mr Eazi to bring the BET award home. Wizkid seemed really disappointed despite all his attempts at westernizing himself.
Other artistes nominated in the same category include: Tekno, Davido, Mr. Eazi. Is rejecting awards the trend among Nigerian artistes?
Is Wizkid indeed too big for that category or is he just proud?
Wizkid is in the pick along with Stonebwoy, Tekno, Mr. Eazi, Davi, AKA, Nasty C and Babes Wodumo.
