Galamsey: Ignore ‘dishonest’ Martey claims – Inusah Fuseini

The former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, has debunked claims by the former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana that illegal mining blossomed under former president John Mahama.

Rev. Professor Emmanuel Martey commenting on the illegal mining scourge at an event in Koforidua told journalists that even though the former Ghanaian leader assured him of steps being taken by his government to address the menace, it yielded no results in the years that he was president.

“I don’t want to go into politics,” he said Monday May 22, 2017,“but it was in Mahama’s administration that this thing [galamsey] became worst.”

“I met Mahama, we sat down and I complained about this galamsey. He told me that he was able to identify the Ghanaian who was bringing the Chinese to Ghana so they will deal with it. But rather, things got worse,” he added.

But speaking Tuesday May 23, 2017 on Morning Starr, Mr. Fuseini lashed out at the former Presbyterian moderator, describing his claims as baseless.
According to him, Professor Martey had been “very dishonest” lately and that he seems to find his voice anytime the New Patriotic Party is in power.

“If he comes out and tell me he had met Mahama [on the issue of galamsey] it is dishonesty. He should lend credibility to what he is saying,” charged the former Minister.

He added: “If you are going to get government to fight small scale mining…even if you are not a man of God, you are a man of experience…you can make your point on how government can fight galamsey without recourse to John Dramani Mahama.”
