Rev. Prof Martey should form a political party – Allotey Jacobs

The Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Bernard Allotey Jacobs has accused the immediate past moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Very Rev Professor Emmanuel Martey of not living as a clergy man.

According to him, his utterances make him appear more of a politician than a religious leader and would therefore advise him to consider forming a political party rather than make comments that are inimical to national development and cohesion.

“He is using one of the biggest platforms in Ghana to make political statements. In this country there are more than one million people who are members of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and if you use every opportunity to talk politics the value of what you intend saying is lost”, he observed.

“How do you expect people who are aligned to the NDC to take what you are saying? This is a national concern and we are all backing government to win in the fight but when a Man of God who is supposed to shepherd his followers comes out to make such statements, he loses the crust of the issue”, he emphasized.

On Adom TV on Tuesday, he admonished Professor Martey to be an advocate against galamsey by visiting various galamsey prone communities using a megaphone to educate them on the dangers of illegal mining.

“He should play that advocacy role not say under Mahama Galamsey flourished. Professor Martey should learn well about the history of Galamsey and know it did not start under President John Dramani Mahama”, he said.

According to him, galamsey activities started as far back as the 1960s but said because the Man of God sits in the comfort of his office and home, he does not know how it came about and speak his mind ignorantly.

“If he is well educated on the genesis of galamsey, he would not be making some of the comments he is making today”, he concluded.
