The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam (AEE) District Director for Right to Information Coalition (RTI), King Ralph Osei Agyeman has emphatically stated that most beneficiaries under the LEAP are party affiliates or foot soldiers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, their checks from representatives from some of the LEAP communities in the country led to the revelation. He has therefore called on the government to put measures in place to ensure that the right people benefit from the program.
He made this known during a forum to create awareness on the LEAP in the area over the weekend.
Mr Osei Agyeman observed that since the inception of the program, the number of beneficiary households has gradually increased from 30,000 households in 21 districts to 147,901 in 188 districts across the 10 regions.
He expressed concern about the low level of awareness and involvement of citizens on the implementation of the program despite its expansion.
“At the community level, there is limited knowledge and understanding of the concept of LEAP such as the criteria for selecting beneficiaries which was retarding the progress of the program” he added
The District Director called for the need to facilitate citizen’s involvement and participation in the LEAP program through public education.
