The Minister of State at the presidency in charge of Public Procurement, Adwoa Safo, has accused the Mahama-led administration of abusing the sole-sourcing element of the procurement laws.
Speaking Monday May 29, 2017 at a training session on Public Procurement for Ministers and Agencies Ms Safo who is the MP for Dome Kwabenya revealed officials in the past administration deliberately used sole-sourcing rather than competitive bidding to steal state funds.
Enraged by the impunity with which the policy was abused, she said it is the “most abused policy ever introduced by government and we are aware of how the previous government unjustifiably took advantage of it [sole-sourcing] a method under the law to loot state money.”
Touching on the ongoing training, she said the exercise is aimed at sanitizing government procedures, to make it more transparent and “less prone to corruption which hitherto had bedeviled the government procurement processes”.
