The offices of Geo Professional Services Limited (GPS), a mining firm, at Tontokrom in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region has been ransacked with several items stolen.
The action was carried out after the expatriate managers of the company were arrested on the orders of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, during his recent visit to some galamsey and mining sites in the region.
Most of the doors and windows to the offices and residential accommodation of the company were removed and the frames chiselled out. Glass windows and doors were smashed with documents and records of the staff members scattered.
There was no official around at the time Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice visited the deserted mining site to report on the looting.
Ultimate News however understands the looting was done by some residents of the community after the military guards protecting the company were withdrawn.
This is not the first time the beleaguered company has been attacked.
In 2003, some individuals in the community attacked the company and destroyed several items.
