The Denkyira Traditional Council has set Monday 5 June to cleanse Denkyira Obuasi following the lynching of an Army Captain by townsfolk.
The Council expressed its “shock and outrage” at the “barbaric killing” of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama and condemned the incident which happened on Monday 29th May 2017.
The Council has called on all its citizens to fully cooperate with the security agencies as they work to arrest the perpetrators of “this dastardly act”.
“Nananom wishes to assure the entire country that this harsh attack on our soil is an attack on the culture and traditions of Denkyira and will perform purification rights on Monday 5th June 2017 at the Odeefuo Ahenfie at Dunkwa,” the Council said in a statement.
The Council noted that there is no history of galamsey activities at Denkyira-Obuasi and, therefore, the account given by the DCE of the area that the military was protecting a mining firm and are not on a mission of anti-galamsey is true.
The Council further called on government to act with dispatch to quell the growing culture of impunity in the country.
