A man believed to be in his 30s on Sunday drowned in a pond at Teacher-Mante in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern region.
The deceased, Identified as Kwasi Ammarh was swimming in the pond with his five-year-old boy when they both began to drown, however, the child was saved by an eyewitness.
Several efforts to rescue the man failed despite intervention by a joint rescue team from the Ayensuano National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, and Ghana National Fire Service from Nsawam.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Nsawam Government Hospital Morgue by the Police.
Kwadwo Minta, a Disaster Control Officer with NADMO in an interview with Starr News, said NADMO called from emergency assistant from the Ghana Fire Service to apply hydraulic pressure to pump out water from the pond in attempt to rescue the man.
Minta explained that, the pond is an abandoned excavated hole by an investor who attempted to build a fuel filling station in the area.
According to him, many recalcitrant Children have taken undue advantage of the negligently created pond to swim in it posing danger to lives of residents in the area.
Last Friday, the body of a woman identified as Yaa Esther who similarly drowned in the Densu river was retrieved after two days of extensive search. The incident happened at New Asuoyaa in the Akuapem North municipality of the Eastern region.
