Popular actress and TV personality, Nana Ama McBrown, has publicly expressed concern over rumors that Kumawood movie-makers are preparing to shoot a movie based on the killing of the late Major Maxwell Adams Mahama.

Ghana’s Kumasi based film industry, known for never shying away from controversial topics, seems to have its sights set on making a movie based on the recent lynching of Major Maxwell Mahama.

In the past, Kumawood movie-makers made cinematic renditions of real life stories like the 2012 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Supreme Court election petition.

Although this time popular Kumawood actress Nana Ama McBrown would like to draw line in the sand. According to Nana Ama, Kumawood movie-makers ought to show respect for the aggrieved family and desist from making the movie.

“I will plead with any producer from Kumasi to please for once let us respect ourselves in this sympathetic death.”

The popular actress is of the opinion that although they may want to do their best, movie-makers will not properly depict story should they go ahead with the movie. It would be recalled that then Captain Maxwell Adams Mahama was allegedly mistaken for an armed robber and brutally lynched and killed by residents of Denkyira Obuasi.

The killing which has rocked the entire country has moved Ghanaians to take a second look at instances of Mob justice. “It could be a father, it could be a husband but the unfortunate part is even if they are going to use this as a story, they will not tell it as it is,” said the celebrated actress.

She also added that should Kumawood industry actors/actresses and movie makers go ahead with the movie she would be “very disappointed” in them, saying , “I think it’s time we learnt a lot.” “When I hear the name Maxwell, my heart beats because my husband is called Maxwell and I feel so much for the wife”.
