Restore dignity of Judiciary – Akufo-Addo to CJ

President Nana Akufo-Addo has admonished the newly sworn in Chief Justice of Ghana Sophia Akuffo to work assiduously to restore the lost dignity of the Judiciary as a result of the Judicial Corruption Scandal.
According to him, once the Judiciary regains such clout, Ghanaians will develop total trust in that arm of government.
Speaking at the swearing in ceremony of Justice Akuffo as the 13th Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, President Akufo-Addo noted it is absolutely critical for the growth of the country that it has a Judiciary that commands the respect of the citizens.
He tasked the Judiciary to dispense justice without fear or favour and must eschew tendencies which could breed corruption.
“I’m confident Justice Akuffo will bring honour to the Judiciary… she has justified the confidence reposed in her by President Rawlings and it’s now time to justify the confidence I’m reposing in her,” President Akufo-Addo noted.
He added: “I’m certain she will continue with Georgina Wood’s agenda in redeeming the image of the Judiciary. I assure her of the full cooperation of my government.”

In response, Justice Akuffo reiterated her commitment to uphold integrity as her hallmark in the discharge of her duties as she heads the Judiciary.
She also called on her colleagues on the Supreme Court bench, Magistrates, Judges, the Bar and all Judicial Service workers to at all times support her efforts to bring all the much needed reforms to the Judiciary during her term in office.
Justice Akuffo was vetted last Friday and was approved by Parliament Monday, June 19, 2017.
