Yamoah Ponkoh was part of ‘unfortunate appointments’ – Kofi Adams

The 2016 National Campaign Coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Adams has stated that the appointment of Mr Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ejisu Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti Region contributed to the defeat of the party in the 2016 general elections.

According to him, appointing Mr Ponkoh as MCE for Ejisu-Juaben caused more harm to the party than good in Ejisu and the Ashanti Region as a whole.

He said those who recommended Mr Ponkoh for the MCE position in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality made a mistake.

Mr Adams, who is also the National Organiser of the party, was speaking on Accra-based Okay FM, Wednesday morning.

He said Mr Ponkoh did not deserve to be appointed as MCE, hence his inability to secure the confirmation of the assembly members in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality when he was reappointed for the second time by President John Dramani Mahama.

He said Mr Ponkoh’s appointment was part of the “unfortunate appointments” the NDC party made while in power.

Mr Adams who was reacting to accusations by Mr Ponkoh that he (Kofi Adams) lacked managerial skills and therefore serving as the National Campaign Coordinator for the party in the 2016 elections contributed to the party’s defeat.

Mr Ponkoh, who also spoke on the same platform, said Mr Adams ought to take the larger portion of the blame among those who contributed to the defeat of the party in the 2016 elections.

He said Mr Adams was the reason the Central Region and Fantes did not vote for the party.
