Emmanuel Adebayor: Did you miss his recent charity? SEA FOUNDATION

Life of most professional footballers has always been; get a good agent, play for the giant clubs in the world, get a good winning bonus or salary, ride the latest sports car, buy a dream house and think about settling down with “the one”, and probably retire with some good investment.

Arguably, only few players think about what they can give back to society. Even though most players often give to the needy without taking credit for their generosity, what difference does it make? “You have given to the needy  so lets the world know about it. Well, that will definitely be a good example to others!”

Critics may argue that there is no need to let everybody know how much one is giving to a foundation or better still, the society. Secretly and that is it! Well, others also believe that, one needs more money or be in a particular social status before actually start “thinking about” giving back to society? No! Even with the little one gives, the more impacts it makes. There are so many charitable foundations set up to deal with several societal challenges. From helping eradicate poverty to providing quality education, from providing good health to providing clean water, from gender equality to curbing unemployment among others.

Let me skip this piece about footballers and  possible foundation they can make an impact to the concluding part of this piece.

Have you ever heard of “Sports angles”? Well, simply put, “they are sports men and women regardless of their financial status in society give back to society.” Thus my definition anyway! Allow me to acknowledge all sports men and women in the world who are putting smiles on the faces of the poor and needy in society.

One, which recently caught my attention was the recent charity works of Togolese International, Emmanuel Adebayor. He took to his official Facebook page to update his loyal fans of his generous support to Village C’infant SOS. His love for children is remarkable. He pledged to support 90 children of the community for 1 year.” I quickly did my math. Aside the numerous donation he does yearly, lets multiply is by 20 players doing same, the results is daring”. Below is his message on the page,

“Sea, Kara is done. It was a wrap  We played a great game in front of a great crowd. We then nasution the village of children sos where we donated food and school supplies. I will be providing the same support to 90 children of this community for 1 year. We’re to the next city, sokodé I’m coming. May God protect us on this journey 🔹 kara it’s done  We played an excellent charity game. We then visited the sos kara child village for the delivery of food and school supplies. I will continue to support these 90 children for a year. May God protect us during this journey. #Godfirst #Seatour2017 #Giveback#seafoundation #lifesgood

After launching his foundation in 2012, he is still honouring his obligation. There are diverse areas every sports man or woman can do to help society aside giving funds to society or constructing the magnificent school building, developing a soccer pitch. One can use his or her fame to champion or advocate at least one sustainable development goals among the 17 goals reached by the 193 UN Member States with agenda “Transforming Our World: The Agenda for Sustainable Development” the That is a first step.

Adebayor have identified about 6 goals he may not be aware of, but from the deep hearty desire to put a smile on the faces of children in Africa, he is helping address, goal 1(No poverty), goal 2(Zero Hunger), goal 3(Good health and well-being), goal 4(Quality education and goal 6 (Clean water and sanitation).

We can all in our small way give back to society and sports can be one medium to make that impact in society.
