Liverpool sign Mohamed Salah for £34m

Liverpool have completed the signing of Mohamed Salah from AS Roma for a fee believed to be around £35m.
The news comes after weeks of speculation, with Liverpool’s approaches for the Egypt international initially being rebuffed by Roma.

But Salah – who recorded 15 goals and 11 assists in Serie A last season – was keen on the move, and on Thursday completed his medical to return to the Premier League.

“I will give 100 per cent and give everything for the club,” Salah told the official Liverpool website. “I really want to win something for this club.

“We have a great team and very good players. I was watching the games last year and everyone was giving 100 per cent to win something.

“Everyone can see the coach gives everything. I hope to see that together we can give everything to win something for the club, for the supporters and for us.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp struggled to find a solution when his side were without Sadio Mane last season, but the German coach believes that Salah could be the man to solve that issue for the title hopefuls.

“His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this area,” Klopp said. “I like that we will make it even more competitive.

“He knows the Premier League, he has pedigree in the Champions League and he is one of the most important players for his country. His record in Italy has been outstanding and he possesses qualities that will enhance our team and squad. I have followed him since he emerged at Basel and he has matured into a really good player.

“He is an ambitious player who wants to win and win at the highest level; he knows he can fulfil those ambitions with Liverpool. I welcome him and his family into our Liverpool family.”

This is Salah’s second spell in the Premier League. The 25-year-old joined Chelsea in an £11m move from Basel three years ago, but struggled for game time at Stamford Bridge and was shipped out on loan to first Fiorentina and then Roma.

Salah completed a permanent move to Roma for £13m last summer.
