My 'obolo' size not a bother; happiness is from within – Biggie

My ‘obolo’ size not a bother; happiness is from within – Biggie

What started as a normal act at a friend’s wedding ceremony has turned out to be a business venture raking in substantial cash after a video of his dance moves went viral on social media platforms.

Biggie Happiness, as he has become known, due to his huge frame and affable nature is not deterred by his figure to do what he loves most, dancing.

Born Emmanuel Kojo Sackey, the 30-something year old says he’s always had a knack for dancing and finds satisfaction in knowing that people appreciate what he does irrespective of his size.

It is a matter of fact that a ‘large man’ freely dancing his heart and limbs out is not a common sight in Ghana, but sharing same on social media for the world to see must have taken anyone some real courage. But that is not Biggie’s story, no, far from being a timid giant, he is actually outgoing.

“I’ve been dancing since childhood but I didn’t really take it seriously until recent times when I tried to show more of those moves… It is a very easy thing for me because I’ve always loved music and it comes easily,” he told Graphic Online in an exclusive interview.

With the help of social media platforms; Facebook and Instagram, Biggie Happiness has been able to commercialise his art, with some of his clients wanting him to act as a surprise guest for the groom, bride or parents of the couple.

“I’m very amazed because I didn’t have it in mind to offer it as a service, I just thought it was for fun. But I realised that I always ended up wowing my audience so some of them always wanted my presence at events. So, as a result of trying to commercialise it, I decided to brand myself as Biggie Happiness.”

Biggie Happiness currently has over 2,500 likes on Facebook and over 3,500 followers on Instagram, a small but appreciable following he is sure to grow.

His first video, which has over 12,000 views on Instagram, he tells Graphic Online, gave him the opportunity to travel to Paris for an entertainment programme.

“It’s been very amazing because that particular video has taken me to Paris and I’ve started some commercials.”

And although he has commercialised his act, Biggie Happiness says his main goal is not in monetary terms and that, “I just want everybody to be happy and enjoy the moment.”

On his physique, he explains that it is as a result of a surgery he underwent after falling from the third floor of a storey building when he was 25 years.

“Those who know me from childhood know that it was not so intentional to be this size because I’ve gone through a lot. I had to go through some surgeries after I fell from the third floor of a storey building and I can’t go back to my former self. That’s how come I can do certain things that people find surprising.”

The family man, who prefers to keep his wife and children private, is an old student of St Augustine’s College in Cape Coast and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where he read bio-chemistry.

“I’m an entrepreneur too. I run a fumigation service and a fire safety company. I’m a jack of all trades,” he laughed.

His favourite quote: “happiness is from within and not what is around you” keeps him motivated and unruffled by negative comments.

In the near future, Biggie Happiness looks forward to becoming a brand ambassador for a specific section of people to encourage them to look at the positivity in every situation they find themselves.

The more likely things you will find Biggie Happiness at, if he’s away from dancing, are reading, cycling or playing lawn tennis.
