Techiman: Collapsed storey building kills security man

A three-storey building under construction has collapsed and killed a Security man at Techiman market in the Brong Ahafo region.
The building containing about 30 stores under construction at the Techiman market collapsed in the early hours of Wednesday resulting in the death of the security man who was sleeping under the building.
Seidu Mumuni, another security man who survived the building collapse revealed that the incident occurred at about 3:30am.
According to him, the contractor and his men had come to work the day before the disaster and had continued their work to the third floor.
“I woke up at dawn to patrol the building and returned to where I was sleeping together with my colleague security man so the next thing I heard was a big bang and the building had collapsed on us.
“I was very lucky because where I was lying I was close to a small hole which was created after the collapse so I managed to squeeze myself through and escaped, unfortunately my other colleague couldn’t make it. There were no warning signs, cracks or anything to show that the building was going to collapse.”
Meanwhile, Hon. John Kofi Donyinah, the Municipal Chief Executive for Techiman who visited the scene with the Police, Fire Service, NADMO and all other stakeholders has halted all ongoing projects in the area following the collapse.

“I was asleep when I received a call about the collapse and after I visited the area two people were removed from the rubble with one dead. After a close examination of the collapsed building you will realize that the construction was done in a haste and I called for an excavator to find out if there are more people under the rubble.
“I have ordered for all ongoing projects to be halted in the area to avert any further casualties, the lives of the people are more important than anything else,” he said.
