Marquinhos extends Paris Saint-Germain contract by three years

Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has extended his contract by three years, keeping him at the club until 2022.

Marquinhos’ previous deal had been due to run until 2019, but reported interest from clubs including Manchester United, Barcelona, Chelsea and Juventus convinced PSG to secure his future.

“I have always said I am happy to play for PSG, and this contract extension is further proof of my commitment to the club,” the Brazil international told the club’s official website.

“I feel very good at this club and with this group of players. I have found here the perfect place to flourish, and hope to win many more trophies.

“I am really looking forward to starting preseason ahead of a new campaign with my teammates and to give the best of myself so that our team continues to make our fans proud in the coming months.”

Since arriving at the Parc des Princes in 2013, Marquinhos has scored 13 goals in 161 appearances in all competitions and helped PSG to 12 domestic trophies.

“Marquinhos’ contract extension brings me great satisfaction,” PSG CEO and chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi said.

“As well as being a fantastic player, Marquinhos is an extremely nice guy and always has a great attitude.

“Since he arrived in Paris, Marquinhos has developed a very strong relationship with our club, the fans and the city whose colours we proudly wear.

“Marquinhos deeply believes in PSG’s ability to satisfy his ambitions and take him to the summit of international football.”

Marquinhos is the latest PSG star to commit his future to the club after captain Thiago Silva, youth academy graduate Presnel Kimpembe and striker Edinson Cavani agreed new deals.
