Gov’t sets up C’ttee to review IGFs

Government is in the process of reviewing all Internally Generated Funds in the country.
As a result, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta has put together a committee to look into the existing policy which allows Ministries, Departments and Agencies to charge fees for certain services.
These fees go into funding the operations of these MDAs.
The review forms part of government’s goal to enhance the tracking and management of cash flows within its operations as well as the MDAs.

Speaking to Starr Business, the Director of Revenue Policy Division at the Finance Ministry, Anthony Dzadzra said “the idea is to look really at the kind of fees we are charging Ghanaians” and whether they have to continue paying them and also to ascertain whether the fees being charged are relevant to the operations of the MDAs.
He said the committee is expected to report back to the Ministry with a policy before the next budget statement but looking at the “enormity of the work I doubt whether they can finish before the budget is read.”
Meanwhile, the ministry has indicated its readiness to support the MDAs in the process of weaning themselves off government subvention.
