John Terry to Aston Villa: Chelsea great dreams of returning to Blues as manager
The 36-year-old former England captain is already eyeing a career in management despite signing a one-year deal yesterday to play on with Aston Villa.
And he admitted taking charge of the Blues was his ultimate ambition – and has discussed it with ex-team-mate Frank Lampard.
“That’s a goal for all of us,” said Terry, who left Chelsea this summer following more than 700 appearances and 15 major trophies in a 22-year career.
“Me and Lamps have had those conversations.
“I don’t think you can ever dream too big. I’ve always wanted to be the very best and if that’s in management, then Chelsea’s the one and in an ideal world that would be incredible.
“But I do realise that you can’t go somewhere like Chelsea as your first job. You need to go and learn, maybe in the academy like Stevie Gerrard is doing [at Liverpool].”
Terry has already been called by FA coaching chief Dan Ashworth, who is encouraging members of England’s ‘golden generation’ to cut their coaching teeth with Three Lions youth sides.
