Nurses from public and private schools to be treated same – Dr Nsiah Asare

Graduates nurses from private institutions will now have same job opportunities to apply and work like their counterparts who have graduated from state-owned institutions following an announcement by government to stop bonding them.

“They are also Ghanaians who pay their fees and taxes to the government so why do we have to block them from working in our public sector institutions”, Director of Ghana Health Service (GHS) Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare asked.

“The private nursing training institutions are many and we are also in a free economy. The government wants to give equal opportunities of employment to every graduate”, he explained on Nhyria FM’s “Kroyemusem” Morning Show.

According to the GHS Director, the discontinuation of bonding nursing from public institutions started by the previous administration contrary to information the policy is an imitative of this current administration.

“This current government did not stop bonding of nurses. …it was done three years ago by the erstwhile administration and you can find out from the appropriate quarters”.

According to Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, government introduced the bonding fifteen years ago where few nurses trained to help healthcare delivery were seeking greener pastures elsewhere after school.

“This time there are more public and private institutions of nursing training institutions and government cannot continue to bond them. …private or no private, bond or no bond everybody can now get jobs to do in the public sector”, he assured.

Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare indicated that employed graduates from both public and private institutions will soon be absorbed by government into the public sector.
