President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Peter Zwennes has described two-time former bantamweight world champion Joseph Agbeko as a fraudulent boxer.
His comments come after Agbeko’s bout against Kenya’s Nick Otieno was called off last week due to some challenges in his opponent’s camp.
But Zwennes has revealed that the Ghana boxing Authority did not sanction the bout between Agbeko and Otieko.
According to Zwennes, Fresh King Promotions – promoters of the bout – failed to comply with the laws which would enable the fight to be sanctioned.
“Time and again we have had problems with Agbeko’s Fresh king promotions. Four years ago, His outfit promoted a fight and it turned out at the last minute that they didn’t have money to pay the foreign boxers and he had to go to the Sports ministry to borrow money.
“Agbeko paid part of the money after the bout and it took 3-4 years…to pay the rest.
“Anytime he promotes a fight he does not have money to pay the boxers and so this time around we decided that Fresh king and Mr. Agbeko no way, we are not sanctioning this for him to repeat the same old tactics,” he added.
