Antoine Griezmann: I never talked to Jose Mourinho about Man Utd transfer

ANTOINE GRIEZMANN has revealed he never talked to Jose Mourinho saying he would be rejecting Manchester United.
Manchester United were determined to sign Atletico Madrid star Griezmann earlier this summer.

Many thought the deal was done after the Red Devils won the Europa League to secure Champions League football for next season.

However, Atletico’s transfer ban meant that United boss Jose Mourinho was forced to give up on the France international.

Griezmann has since pledged his future to the La Liga giants, signing a new deal that will keep him in Spain until 2022.

It was previously claimed the forward was in contact with Mourinho and phoned him to inform the United manager he would not be making the switch to Old Trafford.
But the 26-year-old has now rubbished those reports, but did admit he told United chiefs he would be staying at Atletico for at least one more year.




“No, no, no,” he told Four Four Two when asked if he talked to Mourinho.

“No, that’s totally made up. False.
The forward did, however, admit he held talks with Diego Simeone about his future as the saga rumbled on.

“I spoke to Diego Simeone about the situation, our options and how he wanted me to stay to work out what we could do,” he added.

“Then we finalised everything with [chief executive] Miguel Angel Gil.

“I have too much respect for this club and the people in it to leave now because, just like Real Sociedad, they’ve given me everything.”
