Man Utd and Real Madrid were £4.4m apart on Morata deal before moving onto Lukaku – report

MANCHESTER UNITED were reportedly just £4.4million apart in their talks with Real Madrid to sign Alvaro Morata before eventually turning their attention to Romelu Lukaku.
Morata had been Jose Mourinho’s top target to become his lead striker at Manchester United.

Personal terms had been finalised between Morata and United with just an agreement on a fee needed with Real Madrid but they have refused to sell Morata unless their £79m (90m euros) valuation was met.

Reports suggested United were ready to pay around £61m (70m euros) for Morata but were reluctant to meet Madrid’s demands.

However according to Spanish newspaper Marca, Madrid agreed to accept £70m (80m euros) with £8.8m (10m euros) in add-ons for goals.
It is claimed following talks in the last 24 hours, the two parties were just £4.4m (5m euros) apart but United suddenly decided to move on to plan B.

And plan B was Lukaku, who United have agreed a £75million fee with Everton for.

United’s stunning move for Lukaku has shocked Chelsea, who looked to be favourites to sign the Belgian.

But the Premier League champions face having to match United’s offer or move on to other targets.
