ARSENAL will have to meet Monaco’s £53million asking price if they are to sign Thomas Lemar, according to journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.
Arsenal have been busy this summer, snapping up Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer and Alexandre Lacazette for a club-record fee of £52million.
However, the Gunners could be about to surpass that figure already with a big-money move for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar in the pipeline.
The north London club have reportedly been attempting to sign the France international for weeks, making a number of offers.
However, journalist Emanuele Giulianelli has claimed Monaco have now quoted Arsenal a fee of £53m to secure a deal for the winger.
“Monaco have said they want €60m [£53m] from Arsenal for Lemar,” Giulianelli tweeted.
“Player pushing for the move. Confirmed.”
Lemar is one of a number of Monaco’s star players set to be poached this summer after winning the Ligue 1 title last season.
Bernardo Silva has already joined Manchester City, while it is understood Tiemoue Bakayoko has agreed a £35m move to Manchester United and Real Madrid are pursuing Kylian Mbappe.
Speaking last month about Arsenal’s summer targets, club legend Robert Pires admitted he would love to see Lemar brought to the Emirates.
“I have Mbappe, I have Lemar, I have Lacazette, I have Dembele on my list, but this is just my list. I trust the manager,” Pires said.
“I think the fight with top clubs in Europe will be tough and the competition will be very high though.
“Lemar can play on the left and the right, he has great ability with the ball.”
