E/R: School collapses; displaced pupils study under trees

The dilapidated school building at Mintakrom M/A School in the Akuapem North Municipality has collapsed displacing over 130 pupils.
The pupils and teachers managed to escape death during the collapse of the building.
School authorities have been compelled to organize classes and continue with academic work under trees.
The situation has been unbearable for the teachers as the torrential rains being experienced across the country continue to disrupt academic exercise.
The collapse of the School building follows a report by Starr News over the dilapidated nature of the building and the danger it posed to the students some weeks ago.
The School Management Committee (SMC) sensing danger supported the collapsing classroom with a log.
The affected mud classroom blocks constructed in 1987 through communal labour have never been renovated.

Some of the pupils studying under trees tell Starr News, academic exercise comes to a halt whenever it rains. According to them, birds that land on the trees poo on their books and their uniforms.
The SMC chairman, Isreal Agbetome Hiame in an interview with Starr News’ Eastern regional Correspondent Kojo Ansah, said the Akuapem North Municipal Chief Executive following Starr News’ initial report visited the school and asked that the pupils be evacuated and assured that the plight of the school will be addressed.
The Eastern regional Manager of Plan International Ghana, Kofi Adade Deborah who doubles as a Child Right Activist urged government to ensure that befitting classroom blocks are provided for pupils to provide conducive and fair learning grounds.
