ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC is expected to sign a new deal with Manchester United as he continues his return to fitness.
The Swede had been released by United at the end of the season despite being the club’s leading goalscorer last season.
His campaign was cut short when he suffered a serious knee injury in the Europa League win over Anderlecht in April.
The option of extending his stay was not taken up by the club over fears his career could even be over.
But The Sun claim his rehabilitation is going well and United medical staff are amazied by his recovery.
Despite being officially released by the club this month, the 35-year-old has stayed on at the club’s Carrington training ground where he is working to get back to full fitness.
He was expected to be sidelined until the New Year but he is now targeting an October return.
And with that news, The Sun claim Jose Mourinho is ready to offer Ibrahimovic a short-term deal that will run until the end of the season.
Ibrahimovic has offers from Major League Soccer and China, but his first choice would be to continue his career at Old Trafford.
The Swede faces tougher competition to secure a starting spot next term if he signs though, with Romelu Lukaku recently added to Untied’s ranks following his £75m move from Everton.
Marcus Rashford will also be hoping for game time next season as he looks to become a regular starter for the Red Devils.
