Alvaro Morata was Man Utd fans’ first choice but Romelu Lukaku was mine – Dwight Yorke

MANCHESTER UNITED fans would have preferred to have signed Alvaro Morata to Romelu Lukaku according to Red Devils legend Dwight Yorke.
But Yorke himself admits Lukaku was his first choice striker signing for Manchester United this summer.

Lukaku joined from Everton on Monday for an initial fee of £75million, beating rivals Chelsea to his signature.

They were interested in Real Madrid’s Morata but were put off by the asking price for the Spaniard.

Yorke is delighted they turned their attentions to Lukaku and says it is a great signing.

“In my opinion he’s my first choice and I’m delighted he’s joined our football club,” Yorke said on ESPN FC.
“I know that the boy Morata is the people’s choice because he’s a more glamorous one.

“But when you look in terms of consistency, in terms of what someone’s done in the Premier League who has been there and done it over the past three seasons, he’s been one of the most consistent.

“In my opinion a great person for us to join our club.
“I think that what he needs to do is go in and be himself. That’s the reason why they paid this enormous fee for him, because he’s a great player and he has to believe he’s a great player.

“Yes he’s come into a much bigger club, no disrespect to Everton, they are a magnificent club themselves but when you make this step up, the scrutiny, the expectation is something that has gone up another level.”

Lukaku scored 25 Premier League goals for Everton last season, second in the race for the Golden Boot behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who netted 29 times.
