Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has asked the former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini to immediately report himself to the Ghana Police for planting a spying device in the office of John Peter Amewu, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
According to him, the conduct is a criminal act and therefore called for his arrest by the National Security if he refuses to report himself to the police.
“Inusah Fuseini should report himself now or should be arrested because his conduct is a criminal act and against the law,” he said on Accra based Okay FM.
Mr. Fuseini has confessed fixing the spying device to monitor activities in his office. No malice, he said, was intended.
“That was my personal property,” Mr. Fuseini told Captain Smart on Adom FM’s Morning Show ‘Dwaso Nsem” Tuesday in reply to a direct question regarding the ownership of the spying device.
He said the apprehension that greeted the development was unwarranted because the device was not fully installed.
“It was not working. The installation was not completed,” he said.
The Tamale Central lawmaker, who insists the device was not functional prior to his being assigned a different ministry, disclosed that it was a present he received to enhance his personal security as he was accordingly advised by officials of the state security.
He has since rendered an unqualified apology saying “Let me take the opportunity to apologise to my successor as it was never intended and nobody speed or prowled on the office when I left office”.
But Chairman Wontumi as he is popularly called insist “these former NDC ministers are fake. Alhaji Inusah Fusein is very fake. He intentionally hid the device to listen to conversations his successor would hold in his former office” he stressed.
He said, the minister who was leaving office when he was reassigned to another ministry, ought to have notified his successor of the presence of the gadget that was discovered during a screening by operatives of the National Security whether functional or otherwise.
He believes the former minister has something up his sleeves and is scared “certain shady deals he has engaged in could be brought to public”.
Chairman Wontumi therefore called on the National Security to put some measures in place to ensure that it gets to the bottom of the matter.
