A video which has emerged hours after club officials and team players of Kumasi-based Asante Kotoko were involved in a fatal accident shockingly captures people busily taking videos of the unfortunate incident instead of helping to save victims from agony.
While some made frantic efforts to rescue the injured, the posture of others could best be described as ‘nonchalant’ as they are seen holding their smartphones and recording the tragic scene.
The accident occurred around 10pm near Nkawkaw while the team was returning to Kumasi after a League game against Accra-based Inter Allies.
Reports suggest that the bus ran into a slow-moving truck carrying fertiliser. The driver and mate have been confirmed dead while several other players and the coach, Steve Polack sustained varying degrees of injury.
Polack and team manager, Godwin Ablordey, according to reports, were trapped in the car after the collision.
After news of the incident broke, many took various social media platforms to commiserate with the team.
Meanwhile, all players except Ollenu Ashittey have been discharged from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital whereas Polack is still on admission at the same hospital.
The team’s driver is undergoing surgery for fractured knee.
