Emerick Aubameyang this summer – Marcel Desailly

The Blues missed out on top target Romelu Lukaku, who joined Manchester United instead, are now pondering a move for Morata.
But former Blues star Desailly believes that would be the wrong move for boss Antonio Conte.

Instead, he feels Chelsea should instead break the bank to sign Borussia Dortmund hitman Aubameyang.

Speaking exclusively at legends tournament Star Sixes, which is sponsored by Betsafe, Desailly told Express Sport: “Lukaku was the top target for him. He identified that he’s strong, he can hold the ball and he can make the difference.

“He moves really well, if they play three up front with Eden Hazard on the left he can move really well, he’s very flexible.
“But Morata, does he fit really? Does he hold the ball, does he have the speed of projection he is asking for? So it is a blow for him really.




“For me, Aubameyang will be the best player to adapt for the Conte system.

“Or, maybe let’s sit down with Diego Costa and bring him back in the system.”
Costa is likely to be shown the Stamford Bridge exit door this summer with a move to Atletico Madrid in the pipeline after falling out with Conte.

On whether the situation could be salvaged, Desailly said: “It’s an ego matter. The Italian was into a project for the club and suddenly he saw a player, not committed.

“He let everything go on as normal and at the end of the season he said ‘look you’ve done this, probably you are capable to do it again, so we want to have a new adventure with a new player’.

“They should be able to resolve this because Costa is great.”
