Fear grips Seketia residents

Fear has gripped residents of Seketia in the Jaman North District in the Brong Ahafo Region following the gruesome murder of a 73-year-old farmer.

The deceased, identified as Ama Kyeremaa, is said to be returning from her farm last Thursday when she was killed.

The Jaman North District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Vitus Napen, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic, explained that the police were informed about the murder case at about 2.30 pm last Thursday.

He said the woman was found about 500 metres away from her farm with her head completely chopped off and taken away when the police visited the crime scene.

“Beside the body which was lying in a pool of blood was a basket containing fresh plantain suckers and her cutlass,” he said.

The body has been deposited at the Sampa Government Hospital awaiting autopsy.

Search for assailants

Mr Napen said the police had mounted a search for the assailants and appealed to the residents of the town and nearby communities to be on the lookout to provide the police with clues for arrests to be made.

Residents express fear

Some residents told the Daily Graphic that they were afraid to visit their farms because of the murder of the old lady.

One of them who pleaded anonymity said, “we are afraid to go to the farm to harvest our produce”. He, therefore, called for measures to forestall such incidence in future.
