Akufo-Addo’s media encounter’ll deepen accountability – Expert

President Akufo-Addo’s encounter with the media will deepen political accountability in the country, a senior Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo has said.
“Democracies thrive when we try at all times to evolve proactive conventions beyond the formal-legal rules and blue prints and so I think it is very innovative and will help us deepen political accountability,” Prof. Gyampo who is also a fellow at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) said in an interview with Starr Midday News’ Naa Dedei Tettey Tuesday.

He also urged journalists who will be grilling the president to ask intelligent questions saying, “I will urge those of you who will get the opportunity to be there to scrutinize the president and subject whatever he says to strict proof.”
He said the era where some journalists get overwhelmed by opportunity and hence depicted it by asking “irrelevant questions” must be the thing of the past.
Akufo-Addo engaged the media Tuesday to render accounts of his six-month stewardship.
