The Blues are on the lookout for a new striker with Diego Costa set to leave the club this summer
Chelsea have confirmed they have agreed a deal with Real Madrid for striker Alvaro Morata.
The Blues have been on the lookout for a new striker with Diego Costa set to leave the club this summer.
Romelu Lukaku was heavily linked before joining Manchester United but a deal for Morata is now close.
The fee is believed to be in the region of £67million, with Chelsea now having to agree personal terms with the player.
Morata will become Chelsea’s third signing of the summer.
The move for the Real Madrid forward is designed to be a clear statement of intent from Chelsea to show their support for Conte, even though his improved contract does nothing to secure his future for a longer term.
Now Chelsea are ready to go on a mega-spree as they prepare to splash the cash on not just Morata, but reinforcements in defence and midfield which will take their spending well over £150m.
Despite that, there are clear concerns about Conte after the club effectively just gave him a pay rise – his wages doubled from £5m to £10m – but they did not extend his deal beyond 2019.
Morata’s arrival will likely pave the way for Diego Costa to leave the club this summer.
The Spaniard has been told he has no future at Stamford Bridge with a return to Atletico Madrid on the cards.
He uploaded a video of himself dancing in Atletico colours last week, although he won’t be able to play for the club until the new year.
