GNPC releases $1.5m for Appiah’s unpaid salary

GNPC releases $1.5m for Appiah’s unpaid salary

The Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) has released 1.5 million dollars to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to offset unpaid arrears of the Black Stars technical team.

The Ministry is expected to use part of the money to settle unpaid salaries of Coach Kwasi Appiah and his backroom staff and also invest in sports development within the country.

The Black Stars coach, his two deputies and other members of the technical team are yet to receive their pay for three months and the situation was blamed on the changes taking place within the hierarchy of the Black Stars headline sponsors.

But the five member technical team of the senior national soccer team can now breathe a sigh of relief as the Board of GNPC have paved the way for funds to be released.

“I can confirm to you that an amount of $1.5m has been released to the sports ministry to cater for expenses of the Black Stars technical team and general sports development,” Sports Ministry Spokesperson Elvis Adjei Baah told sportsworldghana.com.

Baah added “No timeline can be given to clear the arrears owned the technical team, it can be today or tomorrow but it will be soon.”
