At least fifteen persons were arrested on Thursday after they were found in possession of what is suspected to be cannabis by police at Salaga, in a raid on local sitting joints in the East Gonja district capital.
District police commander ASP Sulemana Sulley disclosed the operation followed an order by the regional command to clamp down on suspected criminals at their hideouts. It also followed public outcry on increased drug abuse by minors in the area.
The suspects, all residents of Salaga were rounded up at different locations in the Thursday operation and a large number of the substances confiscated.
They were Anthony Akaweimba, Hudu Abukari, Baba Alhassan, Salim Alhassan, Alhassan Tanko, Alhassan Shirazu, Shaibu Fuseini, Dari Majeed, Sampson Atampieri, Francis Awenlencia.
The remaining include Seidu Mohammadu, Awal Mohammed, Ussif Ahmed, Ibrahim Imoro and Ebenezer Atik.
” The regional command gave a directive to do this exercise and I must say our operations has led to the arrest of 15 suspects in possession of substances suspected to be narcotics. We will immediately take their statements and process them to court tomorrow“, DSP Sulley said.
The police in the district earlier decried on increased cases of minors abusing marijuana and tradomol drugs appealed to parents to intensify their monitoring roles.
The suspects are currently in police custody and investigations were ongoing according to the police commander.
The operation continues and police have asked residents to assist with information to locate more hideaways in the district for further raids.
