Former Super Eagles playmaker Austin Jay Jay Okocha has lauded CAF’s decision to change the timing of the Africa Cup of Nations from January to June.
According to him, the decision was long overdue and will help football on the continent. There have been complaints about the timing of the Nations Cup tournament, making it difficult for European clubs to release key African players for the fiesta.
“Well I think it’s a sign of good things coming into African football because these are some of the things we have been looking forward to,” Okocha told Starr Sports.
The idea to amend the timing of the Afcon from January-February to June-July is to avoid wrangling between clubs and countries over player release during the tournamnet.
The former PSG player is one of the continent’s football legends who have embraced the changes effected by the football governing body.
