ALVARO MORATA says he can’t wait to play for Antonio Conte after joining Chelsea.
Morata penned a five-year contract with the Blues on Friday after completing a club-record transfer from Real Madrid.
The Spaniard had been Antonio Conte’s long-term target and the Chelsea boss knows him well having signed him for Juventus during his time in Serie A.
Morata never got the chance to work with him properly though, as Conte departed for the Italy job in 2014.
But the striker is looking forward to teaming up with him at Stamford Bridge now and attempting to defend the Premier League title.
“I know Antonio wanted me in the past and I really want to work with Antonio, and finally destiny put us together,” he told Chelsea’s website.
“I can’t wait to play for him and for Chelsea and to win together.
“It was disappointing in 2014 when he went to Italy, but I played well and had a good year at Juventus, but I really want to work with this coach and finally I can.
“I know his work, the staff. I know it is a lot of tactics and I really like this game and I know how to play with this system.”
Morata was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United before the Red Devils signed Romelu Lukaku.
But the 24-year-old, who will wear the No 9 shirt for the Blues, insists he always wanted to play under Conte.
“It is the perfect situation. I decided to play in the Premier League and I want to play in Antonio’s team. Now I need to work hard, score goals and to play well for the team,” he added.
“There are very good players here and I think we can do something amazing this year.
“It is hard to leave Madrid but it is not so hard when you come to a club like Chelsea, with these players and with this coach, and I think we can play against Real Madrid and Barcelona and win.”
Morata will make his debut against Bayern Munich tomorrow afternoon.
