How did £67million new boy Alvaro Morata rate on his Chelsea debut against Bayern Munich?

After just a couple of training sessions and on only his first appearance for Chelsea, nobody expected that much from Alvaro Morata. Especially considering the opposition.

He didn’t take long to get involved following his 63rd-minute appearance, however, having been held in reserve by Antonio Conte with Michy Batshuayi keeping his place after his Arsenal brace.

Morata entered the fray not as a replacement for Batshuayi, but rather heading on alongside the Belgian.

His movement was decent enough. A neat change of pace enabled him to accelerate past two players in the centre-circle.
Often he drifted out to the left side, looking to test Bayern’s young substitute right-back Feix Gotze; what developed was a physical battle between the two, with Morata winning a couple of fouls.
There were a few nice moments of link-up play and one clever flick for Batshuayi.

He did look as though he would race clear in second-half injury time, but Mats Hummels’ cynical trip soon sorted that out. It is early days, however.
