JOSE MOURINHO was happy to tease Real Madrid star Gareth Bale in the tunnel ahead of Manchester United’s pre-season win on Sunday.
Manchester United came out on top in the encounter in California on Sunday night, prevailing 2-1 on penalties.
Manchester United have been keeping a close eye on Gareth Bale, with Mourinho said to be a long-term admirer.
A move has been in the pipeline for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, with a need to add pace the flanks identified as a priority by United.
Bale appears to be an unobtainable option, with the La Liga champions unwilling to let him leave.
United are acutely aware Bale is enjoying his time in Spain and doesn’t wish to end his stay.
Mourinho shared an embrace with some of the Real Madrid players as he previously managed the club.
Waiting in the tunnel, the Portuguese tactician smiled as Bale, who signed from Tottenham shortly after his departure, walked up to him.
The pair shared a hug and a Spanish TV station picked up what Mourinho said to the Welshman.
Apparently he said: “I can’t buy you because you don’t talk to me.”
Bale is currently contracted with Real until 2022.
During his time at the Bernabeu, he has won the Spanish league once and collected two Spanish Cups and three Champions League titles.
