ARSENAL have been keeping tabs on Real Madrid star Marco Asensio dating back to his time at RCD Mallorca, according to reports in Spain.
Asensio is one of Real Madrid’s brightest talents for the future, with the 21-year-old scoring 10 goals as the club won La Liga and the Champions League last season.
He followed that up with a series of impressive displays for Spain at the European Under-21 Championships this summer.
As a result of his mercurial rise, talk is already rife he could leave the Bernabeu.
Manchester United and Juventus have both been linked with summer swoops, while Arsenal have also been mentioned as a potential suitor.
And Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim the Gunners have been keen on the youngster for quite some time.
It is said that manager Arsene Wenger has monitored the player ever since his time at Mallorca.
He was supposedly impressed by the talent Asensio possesses but lost out when Real opted to pay just £2.5million for him in 2014.
Asensio spent another 12 months at the Iberostar Stadium before Madrid then loaned him out to Espanyol.
He is expected to get more game time next season now that James Rodriguez has left the club.
The Colombia star has been loaned to Bayern Munich for the next two years and Real’s decision to give the No10 shirt to Luka Modric hints he is not expected to ever return.
Asensio will, however, have to tussle with new signing Dani Ceballos for a spot in Zinedine Zidane’s starting line-up.
