MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly confident of signing Nemanja Matic, but Chelsea will demand £40million.
Jose Mourinho revealed yesterday that he still wants to bring in two more players before the transfer window closes next month.
One being a wide player and the other a central midfielder but he went on to admit that he may have to settle for just the one.
Manchester United were understood to have made Eric Dier their No1 target in the midfield position with his ability to play in a number of positions.
But The Independent claim United have turned their attentions back to Matic because they are more confident of pulling off a deal.
The report suggests United have found Tottenham “impossible” to deal with in respect to a potential move for Dier.
And Mourinho has now turned all his focus on securing a deal with Chelsea to sign Matic – a player he signed for the Stamford Bridge club back in 2014.
United were concerned a move for Matic was off the cards after they beat Chelsea to the post in signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton.
But The Independent claim the Serbia international is keen on a move to Old Trafford.
Juventus and Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in signing Matic but the report says the player has his heart set on joining United.
Mourinho has spent in excess of £100m on Victor Lindelof and Lukaku while United are still in the hunt for another winger with Ivan Perisic heavily linked with a move.
