Antonio Conte attacks Tottenham over lack of summer signings: What do they expect?

ANTONIO CONTE has questioned Tottenham’s ambition by suggesting they have lower expectations than their Premier League rivals.
Tottenham have yet to make a signing this summer as the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United splash the cash.

Antonio Conte has seen Chelsea invest around £130million on Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Antonio Rudiger after winning the title last season.

Spurs finished second behind the Blues but are yet to break out the chequebook, with Manchester City (£200m), Liverpool (£50m), Arsenal (£52m), Manchester United (£120m) and Everton (£90m) all bringing in new faces.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy defended their lack of signings and hit out at the “unsustainable” spending in the Prem this week.

But Conte has stoked the flames by asking what Spurs expect to achieve this season without any reinforcements.

“If [Spurs] don’t win the title, it’s not a tragedy,” he said.
“If they don’t arrive in the Champions League, it’s not a tragedy.

“If they go out in the first round of the Champions League, it’s not a tragedy. If they go out after the first game that they play in the Europa League, it’s not a tragedy.

“Maybe for Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and – I don’t know – Liverpool, it is a tragedy. You must understand the status of the team.

“Every team has to understand what their ambitions are. If their ambitions are to fight for the title or win the Champions League, you must buy expensive players. Otherwise you continue to stay in your level. It’s simple.”

“My question is this: What are Tottenham’s expectations?”

The Chelsea boss’ comments are sure to rile Spurs, who play Conte’s men at Wembley on August 20.
