Bayern Munich chief tells AC Milan and Man Utd: You can only sign Renato Sanches on loan

RENATO SANCHES will only be allowed to leave Bayern Munich on loan, according to club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

AC Milan have been in talks with Bayern Munich about signing Sanches this summer.

Reports yesterday suggested Sanches was set to join Milan for a fee of £36million on a four-year deal.

But Bayern chief Rummenigge has insisted that the 19-year-old will only be leaving the Allianz Arena on a temporary basis.

“I had a long talk with Renato and this is a story with an open ending,” Rummenigge said at a news conference on the club’s pre-season tour in Singapore.

“He does not necessarily want to leave, he wants to play. We all share this opinion.

“If it’s decided that he’ll leave, it would only be for a year long loan.

“We would send him out on loan for maximum one year because we are convinced he can become a good and useful Bayern player.”

Sanches impressed during Bayern’s 3-2 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday, a rare chance for him to shine under Carlo Ancelotti.

The Portugal international joined the Bundesliga giants for around £42m from Benfica last summer, when they pipped Manchester United to his signature.

Jose Mourinho admitted he arrived at United too late to hijack Bayern’s deal, but has been linked with a move for Sanches this summer.

But Milan looked closer to landing Sanches, although general manager Marco Fassone cast doubt on a deal going through.

“I don’t know if he’ll be our next signing,” Fassone said.

“We’ve been speaking to Bayern and the player for the past 20, 25 days.

“At the moment, Bayern are setting conditions that we cannot meet, but maybe in the coming weeks the situation will change.”
